Research
Research at the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT) encompasses a wide-range of leading interdisciplinary scholarship, with innovative and award-winning contributions in human creativity and critical making, data and media democracy, Indigenous media and institutions, design research and creative technologies (FCAT 2024 Academic Plan). It contributes to all six priority areas identified in the Simon Fraser University (SFU)Strategic Research Plan: the environment and a sustainable future; our origins; health; civil society and the advancement of justice, equity and social responsibility; the enhancement of our world through technology; and transforming the landscape of teaching and learning. FCAT research is both national and international. It is at the heart of academic, industry and community engagement, student training and curriculum development. Our researchers are members of theSchool of Interactive Arts and Technology,School of Communication,School for the Contemporary Arts,Publishing ProgramandCentre for Digital Media.
The Research Team at the FCAT Dean's Office provides professional research development and facilitation services to support FCAT researchers. Services are aimed at the preparation and submission of the most competitive research funding proposals, promoting and recognizing research achievements, collaborating and communicating with other SFU offices and funding agencies on information, relevant policies and procedures.
